Green Generations, Inc. (GG) is an educational nonprofit committed to teaching K – 8 children in New York City’s underserved communities about emotional health, life skills, nutrition, environmental stewardship, and ethical leadership, programming essential to closing the achievement gap.
In high-risk areas, children face many stresses and distractions from their academic pursuits. Our in-school and after-school programming addresses these pressures and teaches children how to take care of their emotional wellbeing, minds, and bodies in order to be successful in school and in life.
We are dedicated to reducing these barriers to academic and social success by empowering children and families with the tools necessary to alleviate the stresses of poverty while also inspiring generations of change-makers within their communities.
Why “Green Generations”?
Green is the color of life symbolizing hope and serenity. It evokes feelings of relaxation and creates an ambiance that is reassuring and comforting. To us, the vibrancy of green captures our vision of growth and renewal, as well as nourishes our innate need to connect with nature.
Generations represents the continuity of life. The relationship of grandparent to parent to child shepherds the invaluable flow of profound information about our past, present, and future. We are a family and a community of all ages living together. Educators play a vital role in this continuum as part of our extended family in the community, providing nurturance and acting as role models for our children.
Green Generations is about people connecting compassionately and recognizing everyone’s potential. We learn from one another through our shared experiences and when our actions are kind and thoughtful we have the potential to positively contribute meaningfully to each other and to the world around us.
